I arranged this version of the fabulous funerary hymn for a friend of mine who was a cornet player in a local brass band. He specifically asked for a version that had a Cornet fanfare into the last verse and a scale based 'obligato'.
As he put it very succinctly when I showed him the arrangement a few weeks before he died - 'I have been telling those buggers on the cornet section how important learning scales are. Now they might realise why'
This is a straightforward arrangement of the hymn. The final fanfare and scales from the cornets can be omitted at the discretion of the conductor
