Der Mythos um die Nymphe Dafne war im 17. Jahrhundert der erste Opernstoff der Musikgeschichte. Der junge Komponist Benjamin Schweitzer hat ihn 2005 nach dem Libretto des Barockdichters Martin Opitz neu vertont. Nach der erfolgreichen Uraufführung fertigte Schweitzer von der vorletzten, zentralen Szene seiner Kammeroper eine berückende Version für den Konzertsaal an. Nach Dafnes tödlicher Verwandlung in einen Lorbeerbaum singen zwei Soprane, die zuvor als Dafne und Venus zu hören waren, einen traurig-elegischen Abgesang, begleitet von Violine, Viola und Schlagzeug. Schweitzer hat von "Abgesang" auch eine Fassung für Sopran und Klarinette geschrieben, die noch stärker wirkt: Das Blasinstrument verkörpert gleichsam die verstummte, hölzerne Dafne.
