Composed by Alan Menken and Tim Rice. Arranged by Jon Thingvall. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show. Score and parts. 13 pages. Jon Thingvall #722172. Published by Jon Thingvall (A0.1120983).

String Quartet. Additional SCORE and Piano Part also available. Time: 4 min This ADVANCED setting of the Disney favorite has something for everyone: without straying too far, it has enough alterations to keep the attention of your audience, and the parts will challenge your Quartet members. It incorporates both versions from 1992 (the movie soundtrack, AND the Regina Belle/Peabo Bryson duet). This arrangement is playable (and sold) in three forms: Violin Solo with Piano Accompaniment; String Quartet; and String Quartet with Piano. The Piano part is NOT a score reduction, and will add subtle changes to the String Quartet's chords. So, the String Quartet version will sound different when played with the Piano. Any missing parts can be purchased individually. The different formats are shown in these three YouTube videos: Violin Solo wih Piano Accompaniment https://youtu.be/8gYSJXQzwXo String Quartet only https://youtu.be/0VXODdHIyPs String Quartet with piano https://youtu.be/bCbynDZgEEU Its dynamics call for every level, from sotto voce to fortissimo. (The piano part in the audio sample is recorded at about half-volume.) Techniques include pizzicato and tremolo, DOUBLE STOPS in all parts, and QUADRUPLE STOPS in more than one part. Maintaining its pop-idiom, danceable rhythm (except at the ritards, of course) is vital. Throughout the piece, at some point, EACH PLAYER IS A SOLOIST. Conversely, each player will also have to be able to soften and support the soloist of the moment, especially during the duet sections. Starting in the key of the popular Belle/Bryson video (B-flat), it will immediately be recognized by Disney fans. However, before it even gets to the first verse, it swoops up a major third into a fresh, invigorating D Major. This was to facilitate numerous DOUBLE-STOPS. I scored it to be as evocative of the movie scenes as possible. For instance, to illustrate the lyrics, "Unbelievable heights," the song climbs again, this time to F Major, with a flurry of short, fast scales inspired by the fireworks bursting in the air as the carpet whisks Jasmine and Aladdin magically through the night sky. As their flight ends, the music calms, but then is reinvigorated, raising the key up again, this time to A Major, for a transcription of the climactic electric guitar solo, and a robust, soaring restatement of the chorus. Winding down, it lands gently in a D Major denouement, again using many DOUBLE-STOPS IN EACH STRING PART to create lush harmonic pads. The YouTube version is older, but pretty accurate.
