A Song is based on a poem of the same name by the African American author Paul Lawrence Dunbar (1872-1906) from his collection of poetry Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow.  It is a poem that speaks to the longing and loss of love.  Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow in its entirety traces the tempestuous romance of Dunbar and his estranged wife Alice Ruth Moore.  A Song was composed for a 3-part SAB ensemble and piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 2:54.  It is an fine introduction to the work of a man who influenced the many writers of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920’s.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
