I did make it a little more challenging because students tend to practice more when they're playing a special request, so I usually exploit this as much as possible!!! The song as a whole has been condensed to the main parts. Vocal melodies have been simplified. I give fingering and pedal suggestions. Hands tend to move quite a bit, but essential, so I tried to keep the hand shapes very similar. Expect broken fifths as eighth notes for intensity in the chorus. I use tied eighth notes instead of quarter notes on upbeats because this is more visually understandable for students in regards to timing. I usually put little X’s over the tied noteheads.
The song definitely stands on its own and my student was very proud to complete it and play it at our recital.
