Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) zählt zu den bedeutenden deutschen Kirchenkomponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf Anregung des Mainzer Domkapellmeisters Prof. Mathias Breitschaft komponierte er 1981 die "Fünf Weihnachtslieder" für 2 Singstimmen und Klavier (Orgel), in Ergänzung zu seinem Zyklus "Sechs Weihnachtslieder" (ED 3887), die bereits 1947 bei Schott erschienen sind. Die Weihnachtslieder eignen sich für den Einsatz in der Kirche (Gottesdienst, geistliches Konzert) oder auch im weltlichen Rahmen (Weihnachtskonzerte).
