John Stanley was an English composer and organist. Blind from early childhood, he studied organ with Maurice Greene and held several important positions as organist in London. After G. F. Handel's death, he conducted the oratorio performances at Covent Garden and Drury Lane. Stanley also succeeded William Boyce as Master of the King's Band of Musicians.
Among his compositions, Stanley's many organ voluntaries were well-known, They are the source for the trumpet tunes arranged here.
