"Toccata on Hyfrydol" was commissioned by the West Region of the American Guild of Organists for their 2019 Convention in Orange County, California, and premiered in recital by the composer as part of this convention on July 1, 2019 at Christ Cathedral Arboretum, Garden Grove, CA, USA. The piece consists of three sections which musically depict the iconic phrase "wonder, love, and praise" found at the end of the hymn text "Love divine, all loves excelling" by Charles Wesley which is often set to this tune. The beginning is filled with flurries of exciting figurations and pedal runs, followed by a soothing and contemplative middle section, which gradually builds to a rejoicing finale. Works perfectly as a postlude after congregational singing of this hymn tune. Also suitable as an organ recital piece. Duration approximately 6 minutes.
