I remember performing this piece when I was in high school (about six years ago). I remember that this was a pretty difficult piece to tackle, but once we did, it was absolutely rewarding. Rediscovering it and listening to it again reminded me just how powerful of a piece this...

is, and it's one of the go-to pieces I listen to when I want to be inspired to compose again.

a very rewarding piece, wonderful textures, slightly contrasting middle sections. Simply well-written. The story behind it (the text) is an intense experience in itself. On the surface this piece seems of intermediate difficulty, but to make it sound beautiful a better than average choir or ensemble is needed. (which...

might be a truism for any kind of choral piece)

  • August 07, 2008 It's a tearjerker

We sang this this year in my choir at school, and I loved it from the start. But once you hear the full story of the poem, how it was Sara Teasdale's suicide note to the world, it paints a picture of serenity in your mind. It's too...

beautiful to describe, and it holds a special place in my heart. It helps me fall asleep at night, and it calms my soul.

Words can't describe the beauty of this piece. It's capable of bringing an entire audience to tears, not to mention the choir themselves. A must sing for choral lovers everywhere.

  • March 31, 2008 Beautifully written and very touching!

A deeply felt piece, setting words by the fine American poet Sara Teasdale. Its measured pace and gently unfolding (rarely challenging) harmonies offer consolation for bereavement. Lovely shift to G maj. at the word 'stars'. Requires excellent diction, ensemble and breath control.
