Gaspar Sanz was one of the most celebrated guitarists and composers of his time. In 1674 he published a method for the baroque guitar. This method has been lauded by guitar aficionados and serves as a significant historic work. Written in Old Spanish with the tablature system of its day, this method has only been available to the few who would meticulously research and decipher its hidden meanings. Available here is the complete manuscript of Sanz's legacy, which has been translated into English and the tablature arrangements now include standard music notation. Jerry Willard has also included arrangements for the modern guitar and performs selections from this body of work on both the baroque and modern guitar which can be found on the accompanying audio. Audio is accessed online using the unique code inside the book and can be streamed or downloaded. The audio files include PLAYBACK+, a multi-functional audio player that allows you to slow down audio without changing pitch, set loop points, change keys, and pan left or right.

  • August 08, 2020 Good stuff

Bought this before reading the above reviews, and so I more or less gave up on it. However, really pleasantly surprised when I got it. the interpretations are at least as good as the ones I am familiar with from Frederick Noad and Allan Alexander, that is for the well...

known Sanz pieces like Canarios, Folia and Espagnoletta. But the exciting thing about this volume that's dozens more, and gives a good insight in to Sanz' method and depth of his music. The audio is solid too with good renditions of Sanz' most famous pieces both for baroque- and modern guitar. You can also slow them down. I am enjoying exploring all the lesser known pieces the most though. Not sure about previews, and why they are so negative. I am an intermediate player, and possibly the other reviewers are more advanced guitarists. But from my perspective this is a good package to have.

  • August 06, 2020 Pretty good book

I bought the ebook just before noticing those negative reviews, so I had more or less given up on it by the time it arrived . However, I gradually found myself pleasantly surprised with the treasure of Sanz's work, this book is. the interpretations are very good, certainly at least...

as good as the one's from Fi am familiar with , from Frederick Noad and Allan Alexander, like folia, canarios and espagnoletta. This book has many more pieces and provides notations for Baroque guitar as well. the audio part is good too, with solid performances of the most well-known pieces, for both modern -and baroque-guitar Overall: very happy with it; the book is a true tribute to one of the greatest guitarists/composers. I really don't understand the 2 terrible reviews so far, and I find them disturbing, as they appear to be attacks, more so then helpful reviews.

  • August 25, 2010 A shame

I´m really sorry I bought this disgrace, the worst sheet music I´ve ever seen. Any free pdf in internet is better than this edition, full of mistakes and lacking any scholarship

  • March 06, 2007 Poorly writen and recorded, a waste!

Do not buy this package, "I should know I bought one!" The attempt to write history in this edition has failed. YOU CAN LOOK IT UP ON ANY OTHER WEB SITE. The arrangements are poorly writen with no interpretation what so ever. The recordings are by an amature player, with...

no expression skills in classic guitar. The only purchase I would recommend is the YEPES version of Siute Espananola. [...]
