The is the best collections of the Bach Sonatas & Partitas, sparingly and carefully edited, and with a facsimile of Bach's original manuscript at the back. This music is really tough for me (advanced amateur)but I'm learning a lot with the help of a great teacher. It's...

wonderful Bach -- he makes a solo instrument almost into an ensemble...

One of the most useful and accurate editions I have come across. The facsimile in the back is excellent as a cross reference, and the bowings and fingerings are the most logical and sophisticated that I have found, having used several editions in preparation for performances. One should consult different...

published sources of the work, as well as listening to many different recordings. I especially recommend the complete recordings made by Jascha Heifetz, Arthur Grumiaux, Nathan Milstein, and Itzhak Perlman.

Ivan Galamian's edition of the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin Unaccompanied S.1001-1006 is excellent in every way. Most enlightening for this student is the availability of the facimilie of the orgiinal in Bach's own hand. Galamian's suggested bowings and fingerings are helpful in their...

  • February 18, 2007 Violin pieces for all levels!!!

These are absolutely incredible!!, I have never in my life seen such developed music, definetly the pinaccle of all Baroque music, Some of these pieces are harder than others, but that's just so great, because so many violinists of different levels can try them out, My advice to you...

, is to go the piece that you want to play have a look at the double stops, write in the fingering and practice it really slowly, you'll eventually get it!!!! And don't give up if it get's too hard, you can do it!! go slowly!!! Slowly is the key to success with these pieces, If you're having trouble counting the rhythms, I really strongly recommend that you get RICHARD TOGNETTI'S recording available from ABC CLASSICS, His sound is very crisp, his intonation is flawless and his technique is sublime, (beleive me!! I've seen him live!!!!!!!!!) plus it's good Aussie talent at it's peak!! Go Richard!! Wollongong loves you!!

Every accomplished violinist needs to learn at least some of these classic Bach solo pieces. This is one of the few times that the violin gets to stand on its own, with not even a piano. It's all you, and you can express yourself in infinite ways once you...

get past the difficulty of the notes. If you feel daunted, start with the E major or the D minor (all but the Chaconne) which are a little easier to handle. Try a recording by Hilary Hahn--the best I've heard. Steer clear of Arthur Grumiaux. Some fairly good interpretations can be found for free on mp3.com
