Peter Josef von Lindpaintner was born in Koblenz (Germany) on December 9th, 1791. He is known mainly as a composer of operas (beginning with singspiele, but under the influence of Carl Maria von Weber switching later to Romantic Opera). His best-known opera is Der Vampyr (not to be confused with the opera of the same name by Heinrich Marschner, who lived and was active in Germany at the same time). Lindpaintner died in Nonnenhorn on Lake Constance in Bavaria, on August 21st, 1856.
