Sequenza 7b by Luciano Berio taxes the musician's technique and conceptual limits. The score comes on one large fold-out page and demands focused attention if one wants to avoid getting lost. The technical requirements for peformance are similar to Berio's other Sequenzas; that is, the piece demands...

virtuoso command of the soprano saxophone, especially in terms of embouchure flexibility and dynamic control. The piece itself requires an almost inaudible drone C# throughout, which gives the work an echo-like overall sound. Sequenza 7b is an adventure in music making of the highest order. Highly recommended.
