Commissioned by Texas Christian University School of Music, Fort Worth, Texas, Richard C. Gipson, Director. Says the composer, Search is very close to my heart, as it reflects much of what I am tryin g to express musically in these times of upheaval, cruelty, and uncertainty. Premiered March 1, 2005 at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) by the Feghali/Thompson/Castro-Balgi Trio. (Duration: 23').
Scurry: ...agitation, bustle... to go with light running steps... to scamper or swirl about... to cause to act rapidly; a short run or race: these were the images in my mind following a request for a solo work from a Deland, Florida university colleague. While the resultant 'intermezzo' is brief -- basically a long crescendo (loudening) and ascent -- it makes considerable demands on the dexterity and stamina of the soloist, both qualities that my colleague possesses in abundance. Scurry is approximately four minutes in duration. A grateful composer acknowledges the financial assistance from the School of Music of Stetson University, James Woodward, Dean. The score is dedicated to Dr. Lynn Musco and was completed on a windy May 20, 2005, in Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida.
