Rhythm becomes the focus of this contemporary work that is extremely suitable for contest or festival. As the title suggests, various grooves and riffs are built into the ensemble throughout as the piece develops harmonically, melodically, and rhythmicall
As the title implies, Rhythms and Riffs is a work that explores musical pulse, grooves, and various short motifs that recur throughout the work. It was my hope to compose a contemporary work of a serious nature that was able to explore various sounds not often utilized with younger bands. From the very first measure, the work sets a groove. Various instruments are layered atop each other until the entire ensemble is essentially functioning as a drum set.

This was played by Stafford County's All-County Honor Band 2008-2009. The students picked it up, and perfected it in only two days, along with four other songs, so it was a tad bit challenging. I would really recommend this piece.
