  • January 17, 2008 Palmer-Hughes Accordion Course highly recommended

I am a semi-professional musician studying accordion for about three months. The first half of the book covers a review of skills learned earlier and does not contain drills for fluency development for the left hand. The book suggests that a 120 accordion is needed, but I got by...

just fine with the 72. Though the book introduces a variety of music styles, there is nothing of a more contemporary genre for a student who thinks some of the "old tunes" are a bit passe. Other than the cover page, the book is illustrated in black and white so if you are looking for a glossy contemporary book with colored pictures you won't find it here. However, having studied piano and teaching from a variety of method courses over the years I would highly recommend this course for it's content of basic theory, development of accordion skills and singable melodies that are suitable for performance.

  • April 18, 2003 Best Accordion Course

I would highly recommend any of the books in the Palmer Hughes Accordion Course series to any teacher or person who wants to learn to play the accordion. The songs and instructions throughout the entire series are great. The series does an excellent job on building the skills of the...

student, providing exercises to increase skill and then applying them with fun well written arrangements of songs. You won't regret getting this book or any of the other Palmer/Hughes course books. Seth Hickel Carolina Accordionists Association
