I highly recommend this “little” book which has some great English Baroque pieces that mostly short pieces. But the harmonies and voice-leading are very top-notch even from composers most people wouldn’t know. The price is right, though the only downside is that it isn’t the greatest...

These collections are an asset for most levels of (keyboard) musicians, and many pieces are acceptable in just about any part of the Church Service. Most slower pieces have an appealing, desired sound for traditional congregations. These books are a solid investment for the interested musician! While some selections are...

very accessible for the very early- intermediate player, some may be suitable for only the more advanced player.

  • April 22, 2009 The whole series of books is really great

These books represent an interesting period in English keyboard music. I am not an organist and play the clavichord, harpsichord, and piano instead. These pieces, in particular the voluntaries, are really interesting and sound really great on the harpsichord. In some ways they remind me little concertos by Handel, Boyce...

, Purcell, and others that lived during the time when many of these pieces were written. These books are also really easy to keep open on the music stand. This is a big bonus to people like me that do not have much music memorized. The pages are also stapled in nicely without the binding being too tight so they'll eventually fall out after bending the books to keep them open. The printing is nice and clear with good-sized text and music staffs; there's nothing worse than trying to read the music when everything is so cramped on the page that it is impossible to read,
