The Kitchen Musician book of O'Carolan tunes is well done. The melodies are true to the standard O'Carolan melodies and the chordal accompanyment are perfectly harmonized. I purchaed this book previously, left it at a sessiun and re-purchased it. Well worth having in your music library.

Received the booklet of O'Carolan tunes and was well worth the price. Good transcriptions of the music of one of Ireland's unique musicians, a blind harpist from the late 1700's

Very enjoyable arrangements. They lie comfortably under the hammers on the dulcimer.

  • June 30, 2007 O' Carolan tunes for hammer dulcimer, fiddle etc.

This book contains many beautiful O'Carolan tunes such as 'Planxty Irwin','Carolan's concerto' and others, in a way that a beginner can easily play the melody on the piano with the right hand, and the simple chords with the left. I found it very helpful as I have...

been learning the piano for a few months. I must say, however, that I would like to be able to play these tunes later,as well as other traditional Irish tunes, in a more elaborate form (for advanced students). I would like to find the tunes that Micheal O' Suilleabhain plays on the piano (such as 'the snowy breasted pearl' or 'Molly Halpin' for example, which I have been listening for years as I have three of his albums). For a start, however, this book is very helpful for someone who wants to play these beautiful O'Carolan tunes on the piano and is still a beginner.

O'Carolan tunes work so well on the dulcimer, and this book makes a nice variety of them accessible for all levels of playing. I have spent a couple of years learning and enjoying this book. As my playing and arranging skills progress, I like to go back and re...

-polish them--adding new ornaments and ideas for solo playing. The chord suggestions are very dependable guides. I've worked on tunes from a long list of books, sheet music, and festival handouts but this source is my favorite.
