Composed in 1974, 'Music for a Summer Evening' is the third of Crumb's four 'Makrokosmos' works. It takes its cue from Bartok's scoring in his Sonata for Two Pianos and Two Percussion (albeit with a more extensive range of percussion instruments) and lays out what Crumb described as a 'cosmic drama' over its five movements. Performance score, four copies required for performance.

Amazing piece. A beautiful example of Crumb coaxing new sounds out of traditional instruments and incorporating new instruments as well. Also a wonderful study in percussion writing - this piece involves extensive percussion work. The scores are works of art themselves (hand drawn by Crumb). Highly recommended.
