I am an adult picking up the flute after not playing for about 20 years. The easy ditties in this book help give me the satisfaction of playing a whole piece of music while giving me good jazz technique.

I am learning to play the flute, but the exercises in other books were so boring. I needed exercises that were fun and would motivate me to practice. This book explains everything and I love the licks and techniques, and I already feel like a jazz player

  • July 25, 2006 Great beginning jazz book

I've been playing flute for over 30 years but have never been able to play by ear or improvise. I got this book to help me learn about playing jazz and so far it seems excellent. The beginning section is on the proper way to play jazz phrases. Then...

it gets into scales and chord progressions and all kinds of stuff I'm not familiar with. I admit some of it is over my head since I never took music theory. But if I can memorize the scale movements and variations, as they suggest, I believe my playing will improve. I highly recommend this book if you want to learn to improvise, play jazz or just get better at performing.
