Mack the Knife (DieMoritat von Mackie Messer) is a ballad from the 1928 Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper)  - a "play with music" by BertoltBrecht and music by Kurt Weill.  The opera begins with the ballad of "Mack theKnife", which introduces the audience to the many terrible crimescommitted by the central character, Macheath (Mack), a notorious criminal inVictorian London.  

The song has long been a popular standard and has beenrecorded by many artists, including (among many, many others) Bobby Darin,Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,

Weill’s music is arranged here for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, horn in F & bassoon) by LisaPortus of www.portuspress.com.  In addition to the ballad itself Lisa’s arrangementalso features optional sections of Weill’s wind band suite.
