  • July 16, 2012 Great music, long solos

Great Music, it moves & is fun. However, like the others in this series, I find the solos too long. 4 or so repeats doesn't work well with just 1 soloist & no background music.BTW: I started playing various horns again 3 years ago. I hadn't played in 40...

years! Because I play several, I love the multiple instrument key choices.

  • February 27, 2008 Wish I Could Sound Like Hodges

I especially looked forward to this book because I love Ellington and was hoping I could sounds like Johnny Hodges on my alto. Alas... Some of the solos were a bit high in the sax's range for my wife's taste.

Great practice tool for everybody who loves jazz. Two versions of each tune gives you an opportunity to hear unfamiliar tunes first, or just comp to the soloist. Hereafter you are on your own on the next version. And the band swings great.
