Robert W. Smith has chosen three castles and several colorful characters known for legendary deeds from Irish history and folklore to put to music. The use of tinwhistle, the Irish drum bodran and hints of traditional Irish melodies add ethnic authenticity and fascination to the performance of this work. As we have come to expect from this highly inventive composer, the arena of sounds is expanded at every turn of the page. Musical imagery at its finest! (6:59).

We played this my Junior year and even for a percussionist who is usually bored in concert season I couldn't wait to practice it every day... we received standing ovations every time... a BEAUTIFUL piece

  • March 18, 2005 Absolutely Beautiful!

This piece was astounding! The music was absolutely marvelous! I enjoyed playing this piece greatly. I would definitely recommend this piece to any High-School Band. The piece was a slight challenge, but definitely a fun piece to play through it all. This piece was very lively, and most definitely...

    traditional. Very Nice!! 5 Stars!

  • April 23, 2002 Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

This is such a cool piece. It's so fun to play and it really sounds traditionally irish. Once you hear it you won't be able to get it out of your head. This is highly recommended for any high school symphonic band. It takes all the different qualities...

of each instrument and puts it together beautifully. Awesome!!!
