Program Notes:

“In an Updraft!” was written to complete a student trilogy of earth, water, and air brass trio series: earth and water having been composed by Mike Lynch (On the Run) and Jessie Martin (Ship at sea/ Captain’s log), fellow Dana New Music Society Members. The piece imitates the ever-changing currents of wind by alternating moods, tempos, and time signatures (3/4 and 7/8).

This piece was originally premiered in the spring of 2012 at the composer's junior composition recital by Robert Violette (Trombone 1) Samantha Hogan (Trombone 2) and Lauren Eisenreich (Euphonium).

***"In an Updraft!" can be played with any combination of Trombones or Euphoniums, but is most effective with the original instrumentation.***
