It is a musical interpretation of the classic childhood game and all the shenanigans that come along with it. The music is through-composed and arranged into four sections, with a tempo change “run to the end” coda. Hide and Seek also plays around with silence and conductors should interpret as freely as desired (i.e. holding silence longer). This piece is meant to be fun for the performers and audience alike, giving young performers the chance to be somewhat theatrical with their playing, beginning to understand the possibilities in programmatic music. This piece directly correlates with the Foundation Warm-Up Series. This series is designed to follow most beginning band methods. The early sets focus primarily on airflow, common patterns, and reinforcing concepts presented in the method books. As the series develops, the sets become more like a traditional band warm-up, including long tones, flexibility exercises, articulation, scale patterns, and a chorale.
