Internal conflict and emotion are portrayed through careful articulations, bold dynamics from the soloist, and a variety of textural techniques such as col legno and pizzicato. Two themes are introduced initially, followed by a development section that devolves in violence and chaotic forms of the thematic content. The end of the piece gives a momentary restatement of the secondary theme and a melancholy hint at the primary theme that is left unfinished.
