I just got my banjo a week ago, so I'm a real beginner. With the help of this book and an hour of practice a day, I can already pick out melodies to a bunch of songs, and I can play the "roll" with one. I'm happy with...

the instruction the book gives. It starts out pretty slow and builds your confidence, but it has more complicated techniques as you progress. The only drawback to the book so far is that if you're not familiar with the songs that they use to instruct you, and you don't have the tape or CD to work with, you don't know what the song is supposed to sound like. Other than that, I am satisfied with the book.
