  • November 02, 2009 Review of Greater Love Hath No Man by John Irleand

This piece is truly inspirational. It has some very clear shapes and lines, most of which are unbeleivably beautiful. They are not complicated or wierd; just simple and relaxing. There is a treble solo in the middle which just about captures what a treble solo is typically;the voice of...

an angel, quite high pitched with some beautiful long high notes. Then follows a baritone solo, which just about captrures what a baritone solo should be like; quick and excited and leading us into a more emotional phase. In this part Ireland applies some truly captivating suspentions and cadences. This piece literally left me shaking. (I am a treble in a College choir in Cambridge. I have been there for nearly five years now, and I think it would be fair to say I have only come across a peice as inspiring as this once or twice in all that time. Another peice that I would reccomend is O Where Shall Wisdom Be Found by Dr. William Boyce.)
