This piece is an excellent example of where a tango can go, brilliantly composed by Piazzolla. In our quartet we have substitued a flute for the 1st violin so some changes have to be made.

  • February 08, 2009 This is avant-garde Piazzolla

Piazzolla's "Four for Tango", originally commissioned by Kronos Quartet is a complex, dramatic, powerful, exciting work requiring virtuoso string technique and sophisticated musicality. I recommend that you view Carducci Quartet's suberb performance of "Four for Tango" on YouTube to get an idea of the technical and musical demands...

of this tour-de-force work. It's not an easy work to listen to--or play--as Piazzolla pulled out all the stops in composing this lively, dense, "avant-garde" work.

A great piece! I bought it for our faculty string quartet and we read it down. It will take a fair amount of rehearsal to bring together all of the effects and musicality the piece has, but the overall result will make it worth it. We anticipate programming it this...

    spring.

if you want a challenging and very fun, new to the ear string quartet piece, choose this! i have played a version for a piano trio and piazzolas tengos for strings are absolutely mind blowing. I would say level is upper high school, but well worth it!
