Sorry, but I can't agree with other reviews. My students tried to like this book. Both kids and especially adults found it boring. The songs are minimized to one-liners which does not develop stamina. They get very confused playing along with the orchestra arrangements on the cd, so...

don't want to use that. The DVD is barely anything they say. My students enjoy the Suzuki books with ABCs of Violin. The cds are so much better. Best match up if students some want rote learning and good reading skills!

If you are interested in this book because it comes with a DVD then I can tell you right now that the DVD will not help you much. It tells you how to hold the violin, etc... It will not give you lessons on playing the violin. I have played...

the piano for many years and have always wanted to play the violin. I am teaching myself. I like this book because it is easy to understand and is simple if you know how to read music. While someone who does not know how to read music can learn with this book they may have a hard time. I use this book with String Builder 1. I have found that they both help to reinforce what you learn.

  • January 10, 2008 HATE CD/DVD

I am a beginner, I hate the CD/DVD because they do not have a sole violin track to listen to. Its orchestra arrangement. It would be nice to have a sole to play along with and not the orchestra!

  • October 02, 2007 Superb - an absolute winner!!

This is the best beginner course I 've ever come across. As an adult, I was able to teach myself to exam standard (intermediate) within 4 months, and was awarded Distinction! The course is very enjoyable and you will progress very quickly indeed.
