Thalben-Balls "Elegy" has been beloved since before he wrote it down! (It began as an improvisation on a radio program, but the audience was several million people). It remains a much-played classic today, and is still beautiful and effective. A "basic" repertoire piece; if you don't have...

  • December 19, 2012 G.T. Thalben-Ball "Elegy"

This is a very nice piece to have in the organist's library. It sounds fantastic and does not require too much work to prepare. It gets a little "fingery" in spots creating some unique fingering challenges but nothing that can't be worked out within a couple of minutes...

. I would highly recommend this to any organist.Works great as a prelude, offertory, or meditation.

This is such a lovely piece I don't know how I got along without it all these years. A friend recommended it as one of those that should always be in your Most-Played stack of music. It is flowing, meditative, and suitable for many occasions (prelude, communion, funeral...

). It has a dignified British sound, and falls nicely under the fingers.
