I am the music teacher at an elementary school of over 800 students where over 30 different languages are spoken. We just did this program, and it was a HUGE hit!!! I used 3rd-5th graders, and it was just right for them! A couple of the songs have harmony...

parts that make it interesting and aren't too hard for the children. Yes, the info on the holidays is very basic, and the songs could be more creative in its content, but for us, it was a great way to share a little about each of the holidays to a very diverse audience. The actors definitely made the words "theirs," but our 5th graders didn't find the dialogue awkward or hard to memorize like others. I think it's great for what it is... a fun introduction to the holidays celebrated in December!

The language is too hard and is not sutible for people that have hard times remembering paragraphs. I want grade 6 and 7s to do it.

  • 2007-05-21 00:00:00.0 Music acceptable, but dialogue unusable

We performed this at our Unitarian Universalist chuch only after completely rewriting the script. The language written for dialogue is awkward and not appropriate for the child actor. The music is nothing incredibly interesting and its attempts to represent different cultures use stereotypical themes that indicate an ignorance of authenticity...

on the part of the composer.
