Ten progessively difficult chapters, containing dozens of improvisational exercises, explore jazz improvisation from creative, melodic and technical perspectives. The book is designed to meet all of the national standards and frameworks for music education and is a comprehensive improvisational curriculum for individual musicians or group classes. Improvisation is about style, phrasing control, creative design and intent, and learning to speak the language of jazz.

I like this approach-it's a very language based and creative way to look at improvisation. Some of the exercises were really hard and really made me think about what I was doing. It's a different approach, but it works and I liked it.

  • September 12, 2007 A very cool book

I really liked this book..I play trombone. The CD has Jeff Gallindo on trombone demonstrating some of the solos and techniques and he is just amazing! The book itself starts pretty easy, but ends up being pretty hard towards the end. I hadn't really though of improvisation this...

way before, but it really improved my playing. I'd definitely recommend it.
