The title of the piece is the Latin word for "imagination." Opening with a lively fanfare, syncopated rhythms drive the first section toward a reflective middle section. There, explorations of the melody and counter-melody, along with jazz-influenced supporting harmonies, are distributed among the various instruments. An accelerando then launches the return of the opening material and builds toward a concluding coda of vigorous rhythmic fanfares and resolute melody.
