These are wonderful. So glad I stumbled onto the duet arrangements of Joel Raney!

These are advanced arrangements when played up to tempo. They are the most fun and exciting of any my partner and I have ever played. They are definitely MASCULINE and BOMBASTIC. None of that sissy Christmas blather. The music portrays Messiah not as the helpless child in the manger, but as the MAN of YAHWEH that he became.

I ordered this book to use with my daughter. We will be using the whole book this Christmas season at different services. Loved the arrangements. Some of the key changes were a little odd. Really liked the variety of styles - some soft and subdued, others rhythmic and syncopated.

I ordered this book based on the great reviews left by others. I was disappointed when I read through it with my sister. The arrangements are very easy to play, but bombastic and not pretty at all. They modulate to different keys every 20 bars or so, with non-organic transitions. I don't think they would sound nice in a church service. I also ordered the Christmas Jazz 4-hand book, and those arrangements were MUCH nicer.

I love the variety of styles throughout this book. Every selection is wonderful and of a nice length, too. I highly recommend this book for intermediate/advanced players. A fellow piano teacher and I are planning to play the whole book for a Christmas event this year.

These are very exciting arrangements. They are written like a score with both parts on the same page, which I really liked. The table of contents was at the end of the book. I really liked Hark the Herald and Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella. Lots of syncopated rhythms, lots of flourishes - these are not quiet arrangements. It is sacred music, but it is joyful sacred music.

LOVED all of his arrangements. The Secondo is intermediate. Primo a little more advanced. Syncopation, use of parallel 4ths & 5ths (simultaneously) and lots of spontaneous key changes create great interest and variety. Joel weaves the melody line between the two parts beautifully. We played this collection at an event last week and the people loved it. There were moments of cute that made the audience giggle. Really! Seldom have I had audience members come up and ask WHERE did you get those arrangements?!! All Thumbs Up! I just ordered his Classic Hymns II for 4 hands, Images of Christmas and Gospel Greatsand hope that I find the same style. Buying 3 more of his books should summarize adequately how I feel about his work.Enjoy! As an aside.... we also did 3 of the Fantasies from Robert Vandall's Christmas Fantasy Duets and found the style, difficulty and audience reaction similar. Highly recommend that one too.
