The date of composition places it firmly in the organ repertoire of the Romantic period. It is particularly suitable as a light-hearted encore piece but can be equally rewarding as part of any concert programme or even in a liturgical context at Christmas time. This is now the only available edition of the work and is based on the first edition in the collection of the Hessische Landes- und Hochschulbibliothek Darmstadt.
