By Stephan Koncz

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download
Composed by Stephan Koncz. 20th Century, Contemporary. Score and parts. 20 pages. Stephan Koncz #3035097. Published by Stephan Koncz (A0.736651).

Item Number: A0.736651

Erik Satie's famous Gymnopédie No. 1 giving inspiration to a completely new work: A slightly melancholic musette meeting minimalistic influences, a middle part that takes the main theme into our times, turning later into an ecstatic version on an imaginary dancefloor. After a powerful climax the original musette returns - somewhat regretful - and ends reminiscent of the past.
As performed by Ray Chen and his "Made In Berlin" string quartet.

As "An Improvising Classical Musician", this rendition suits my spirit and allows a Quartet to shine, member by member and in harmony with IMPRESSIONS of beauty. It also works well for String Orchestra and is an Audience Listening Pleasure.

Koncz is an accomplished composer who weaves original and historic themes like spun sugar. He uses textures as only someone who knows string instruments intimately can. And this is living breathing music that both musicians and audiences love. Buy it! Perform it!

Had to buy the sheet music after hearing this piece in a live performance in Orange County. It is definitely not for beginners and takes quite some effort to master it as a string quartet. Nevertheless, it is one of the most satiesfying pieces I have played in a while...

! The audio sample here on SMP is impressive and sets the goal. Give it a shot if you think about broadening your string quartet repertoire!
