I am a jazz guitarist and I use these as studies for both left hand fingering and picking technique. I use them for my advanced students as well. The variations in technique for both right and left hand are almost endless. For usage; 5 stars.5 stars for prompt and...

    courteous service also.

I recommend the Galamian (International) version. If you are my student, please purchase the other one. =)

  • August 20, 2008 Great technique builder

My teacher has me doing 5 of these studies a week and they can be a work out at times. There are definitely some great ones in here, also some fairly tedious ones that have little value to them, but ah well. If you are looking to improve bowings, double...

stops, octaves, string crossings etc this is a great book for ye! The first etude is very lyrical and brooding at times, and the fourth etude is a great exercise in staccato/ scales. While etudes are great, I also suggest bach sonatas as ways to improve technique, a lot of the Partitas have little variations on a theme that are fairly simple at times to fairly difficult that help build technique like any of these etudes, except they sound much more lyrical and musical and you get to play some Bach! Thats just me.

although some of them are very tough on your hands, they seemed to be used as a standard for all state auditions. My technique has improved greatly since my teacher started me on this book. i agree, a must have for any intermediate player.
