Duetto-schermaglia amorosa di Jacopo Melani (1623-1676), trascritto dai due manoscritti che si conservano nei conservatori di Firenze e di Napoli. Jacopo Melani, pistoiese e figlio d'arte, fu organista e maestro di cappella in cattedrale a Pistoia per almeno un quindicennio tra il 1645 e il 1665; spesso benvenuto in quegli anni presso le corti dei Medici, degli Este, degli arciduchi d'Austria e altre, scrisse molte opere, soprattutto per le accademie teatrali fiorentine dei Sorgenti e degli Immobili (gli impresari del Cocomero e della Pergola). Il brano qui proposto è probabilmente tratto dall'opera Il Girello, su libretto di Filippo Acciaiuoli, rappresentato a Roma per il carnevale del 1668 assieme ad un prologo in versi messo in musica da Alessandro Stradella. I due manoscritti presentano versioni notevolmente diverse tra loro, sia nella melodia delle due voci, sia nell'accompagnamento del basso continuo, ed anche in piccola parte nel testo; la versione conservata a Napoli, poi, contiene anche una piccola parte di flicorni (in questa registrazione sostituiti da violini).
