About Roger

Roger Aldridge is a jazz composer based in Olney, Maryland. His music has an exceptionally wide range of styles including tango, blues, samba, fusion. ragtime, contemporary classical, and back to American Roots music. A quirky humor is found in much of his music along with a side that expresses the beauty in life. For many years Roger focused on writing original tunes in a lead sheet format. They can be performed by small jazz groups, tango-jazz bands, fiddle bands, and other kinds of ensembles. Then, in 2010 he developed concepts for a mid-size jazz ensemble (9 to 11 players). Instead of the ensemble being a smaller version of a big band, a woodwind quintet -- with each instrument having a distinct tone color -- is used as a role model. Flexible instrumentation is used in his scores. This enables the music to be performed by many combinations of instruments. The scores can also be easily adapted for larger ensembles. Roger's background includes jazz composition Berklee College of Music, BA in composition McKendree University, and MA in composition Highlands University. Contact Roger
