Paris is a Euphonium duet, commissioned by Tony Bushnell for him and his wife, Juliet. The piece is influenced by the city (Paris) and its history.
The piece has two main musical themes. The first is a flowing melody that depicts the beauty of the cultural and architecture of Paris. The second hints at the troubled past that Paris and France experienced back around the time of the revolution – the march feel specifically referencing the storming of the Bastille. The whole piece is book-ended with a dream-like melody that alludes to walking down the streets of Paris or along the river Seine.
This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass.
