Light at the End by Kim Richmond Big Band - Sheet Music

This is a commission for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association's All-star big band. The rhythm section is important in this medium up-tempo swing piece, especially at the beginning, where the piano and bass have some ensemble passages to play together. After a substantial fanfarish-like intro, the theme is introduced over a rhythm ostinato. A secondary theme is stated by the trombones, but this gives way to a Latin section with a quasi-salsa feel. Both tenors solo over the Latin feel, after which there is further ensemble development leading to a exciting last statement of the main theme. Solos: both tenor saxes. No doubles. Optional parts for French horns (alternate parts for Tpt 5-6 provided), tuba, and percussion (mallets and hand-percussion). Trumpet high C# (one final note E natural).
