Although this piece is arranged for big band instruments, there are additional possible instruments, which contribute to the atmosphere of the piece. If you can, prefer a banjo over a guitar. The clarinet plays an important role since it has a prominent solo part. The solo is also notated in Altsax 1, so it can be played by the Altsax 1 if you do not have a clarinet player.
There is an optional background choir part. It is not notated in the full score as it only doubles the trumpet solo (e.g.bar 65 etc.) to add some texture.
The famous drum solo is intentionally not written out. This is a great chance for your drummer to develop their own drum solo and shine. At the end of their solo, it is very important that they play the notated 16th figure to cue the band in again.
