Jazz Big Band with Vocal - Difficult

SKU: JL.LL-2304

By June Christy. Edited by Jon Harpin. Arranged by Shorty Rogers. Jazz Vocal. Rock/Swing. Full score and parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LL-2304).

Here is Jon Harpin's transcription of the Shorty Rogers chart written for June Christy's 1962 "Big Band Specials" album. This is an unusual arrangement which switches between a Rock and Swing feel, and the rhythmic structure of many of the band backing lines give the chart a distinctive 1960s feel. The chart contains an Alto solo which may be played as-written or improvised from the chords provided. Also, there are a couple of modulations in the chart, just to keep things interesting. It opens in Bb, shifts to F for the instrumental section, remains in F for the vocal return and then modulates to C for the close. The Trumpet ranges are high (lead to high F#, 2nd to C# and 3rd to C) so this might be a chart to play earlier in the program, rather than later. There are no sax doubles.

Instrumentation: Vocal, 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, Baritone Saxophone, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums.
