I wrote this arrangement to open my CD, "Like It Is". It's always been a tune on which players have loved to improvise, and I thought this unique rendition would not only give the tune a different and updated character, but also be fun for the ensemble, giving them plenty to dig into. The somewhat abstract opening leads to solo sections for trombone and alto & tenor saxophones, as well as drum breaks following the shout chorus and bringing the chart to a close. This arrangement was nominated for a Grammy award in 2015 in the "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella" category.
