Originally written by Dobbyn after witnessing an anti-racism protest in Christchurch, Welcome Home is a song of unity, belonging, and open-hearted hospitality. This arrangement itself was first developed in response to the Christchurch mosque shootings, honouring the song’s message in a choral setting. Dobbyn’s naturally free-flowing rhythms have been carefully adapted for choir, while fresh harmonic touches - such as the poignant reharmonisation of “and the world is so weary in war” - bring new depth to the familiar melody. An optional Māori karanga can also be included at a key moment, adding to the song’s emotional impact.
Scored for SATB divisi choir with piano, this arrangement also includes optional bass, drums, and percussion for those wanting to bring a fuller, band-like sound.
