Walking with the Pride is programmatic in nature, but does not depict specific events. The quiet and melodic beginning paints a picture of an African morning. In the dramatic middle section, a pride of lions appear and go on a hunt. As the lions disappear into the tall grass, the opening melody returns in all its grandeur. The African setting is created by the extensive use of percussion instruments and the rhythmic ostinato in the percussion and wind instruments, A dramatic musical setting.
