Big River is an American musical by Roger Miller, based on the the book by Mark Twain, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It is Huck's character who sings the song in Act I. While controversy exists over the source material, and therefore the musical, the song is nonetheless enchanting and hopeful, and clever choral programmers will unpack the lessons for the audience and use this as a place to begin a dialogue around issues of racism, art, and authenicity.
