Piano variations on the hymn tune "Duke Street." Texts set to the tune include "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Jesus Shall Reign Where'er the Sun." The melodic basis for the hymn tune "Duke Street," was written by John Warrington Hatton.
In this composition, the first variation is an alternative harmonization with altered meter. The 2nd and 3rd variations feature polytonality and the fourth variation is harmonized in fourths rather than thirds. The fifth variation incorporates elements of all the preceding variations.
