“Un jardín flotante” is a theme with variations for violin and piano accompaniment composed for Leonardo Coral’s lectureship - Composition Techniques V, at the Faculty of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (August 2021- December 2021).
The title refers to the mythical hanging gardens of Babylon, which are considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The work was presented through Facebook Live for the virtual composition recital of this lectureship, on December 7, 2021.
This work is written in a contemporary tonal-modal language that oscillates between D Lydian and E Mixolydian (D Aeolian and E Locrian in variation III).
